Here at La La communications we’ve decided to put one of our own clients’ pages through a four week test based upon the chief of Instagram’s theory, which is that posting twice a week and twice daily on stories is enough to grow your audience. Instagram’s inner workings remain a secret to most, which is why the ever-changing algorithm is continually being scrutinised by its users. With most users feeling as though their content isn’t being seen.

Why did we decide to post 2 times per week and twice daily on stories?

Well, with Instagram’s algorithm being the most researched on the web it comes as no surprise that there is a vast amount of information out there surrounding this topic. So when we read that Adam Mosseri – chief of Instagram – had said the best way to grow your page was to post twice during the week on your main feed and twice daily on your stories we just had to test it out.

Our approach to posting twice a week:

For the test we decided it would be best to post one still image and one reel per week – due to the ongoing debate between the two – and Mosseri’s claim that the social media platform will continue to support singular images as it’s part of the brand’s heritage. We hoped by running the experiment this way, we’d be able to see whether or not our findings aligned with this statement.

Results – the key numbers and statistics:

Here are the key findings from our Instagram test which ran between October 1st – October 29th.

  • 4 videos
  • 5 images
  • 46 stories
  • Profile visits up by 23.3%
  • Post interactions up by 16.3%
  • 6,038 accounts reached through reels
  • 961 accounts reached through still images
  • 570 Likes
  • 21 saves
  • And our follower count grew by 102 – which equates to 100% growth – in comparison to the month before.

Reflection – what do our results show:

Although not groundbreaking, our overall results clearly demonstrate that consistently posting has a positive impact when it comes to the Instagram algorithm. It is clear to see that reels – when paired with trending audio – perform significantly better than other content on the platform. This is evident due to the fact those reels reached more accounts than any of the other content posted, in-fact week on week the reels performed significantly better than the static images. Upon this reflection we have carefully analysed our results from this test – in comparison to the above statement made – and our numbers do not align with this. Which means we can not say with any certainty that there is any truth behind it.

However, during this test we have seen some truth to the statement – post twice during the week on your main feed and twice daily on your stories to grow a following – as our followers grew by 102. Although it is worth mentioning that we continued with community management on the feed, so whether or not that had an impact on our following count rising is to be taken into consideration.

Next Steps

After having ran this test for four weeks we’re glad to say that the challenge has been a success – we have had a positive increase in followers, our engagement levels have continued to rise and our stories have successfully risen in viewers, too. Going forward we are going to continue this test – running it for a longer period of time – to expectantly see another set of positive results.
